Information:
Overview and Grades
Your final grade will be out of 700 points, divides as follows: three in-semester exams, worth respectively 80, 100, and 120 points; a 100-point project or paper to be explained later in the semester; a homework/quiz grade of 100 points; and a final exam worth 200 points. The final exam will be comprehensive. The typical grading scale will be used to calculate your final grade: scoring 90\% of the 700 points will guarantee you an A-, 80\% for a B-, etc.
Homework and Quizzes
The homework will be posted on the Google calendar embedded in the front page of my website. Each assignment will consist of a collection of problems from the textbook, of which approximately five will be bolded. These bolded problems are the ones you will turn in to be graded. For calculation problems, you should include a neat solution including all work -- simply writing the answer is not sufficient. For modeling/word problems, your reponse should include a clear explanation of your thought process. The unbolded problems will not be collected, but were picked to be good supplementary problems to strengthen your skill, and I will use some of these problems when writing the exams. It is crucial that you do as many practice problems as you need to in order to become fluent in solving the more routine types of problems. Quizzes may be assigned sporadically throughout the semester, which will be factored into your homework grade.
